Appointments

Consult Online

The link for our online consultation service can be found by clicking on the image opposite.

Patients may contact the surgery for administrative or clinical advice and be contacted back without the need to phone the surgery.

Urgent Appointment

We try to reserve several appointments for urgent cases throughout each weekday.

If you need an urgent consultation, please telephone 01691 653 600 or come to the surgery from 8.30am.

If during the consultation the doctor feels that your request for an urgent appointment is unreasonable, you may be asked to book a routine appointment for another time.

Urgent appointments are not available online.

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine Appointment

To request a routine appointment in the next 7 days:

  • use our online system via the link at the top of this page
  • phone us on 01691 653 600, Monday to Friday from 8.30am
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8.30am
  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) to book a screening test or vaccination

We are able to offer a limited number of early morning appointments between 8.10am and 8:30am.

For patients who have difficulty getting into the surgery during normal hours, we offer GP and nurse appointments between 8am and 11:30am on Saturdays.  All appointments must be booked in advance, we do not offer a walk-in facility.

Patients are usually allocated ten minutes for their appointment. However, some consultations such as cervical smears, coil fittings and minor operations need longer, so please let the receptionist know if this is the case.

It is better for patients to see the same doctor for most problems, but unfortunately this may not always be possible.

If you attend with complex health issues or need to discuss a list of problems, it may not be possible for the doctor or nurse to deal with everything at one time and you may be asked to book another appointment.

Extended Access

Local GP practices working together to offer more convenient appointment times for patients

We are part of a network of practices (known as ‘hubs’) in Shropshire, working together to offer patients ‘Extended Access’ to pre-bookable appointments in the evenings, at the weekend and during bank holidays.

In Shropshire, local practices work together in a network of ‘hubs’ to provide this service. The ‘hubs’ take turns to provide the Extended Access appointments to patients. This means patients could be offered an appointment at their own surgery or at a nearby practice in the local area (part of the hub). Patients will be advised about appointment location at time of booking, enabling them to make an informed choice about their where and when they access care.

Locally the pre-bookable appointments are available as follows:

  • Weekday evenings (Monday to Friday)
between 6.30pm and 8pm (at a local area hub)

  • Saturdays
between 8am and 1pm (at a local area hub)

  • Sundays and bank holidays
between 8.30am and 12.30pm (at a single site in central Shrewsbury)

Arranging a pre-bookable evening, weekend or bank holiday appointment is easy to do - patients simply need to contact us, during normal opening hours, and speak to the practice receptionist or a member of the practice team who will be able to help. Appointments may not be with your registered GP but will be with a GP or other qualified healthcare professional.

Home visits

If possible, please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.

Urgent Visits and Emergencies

For patients requiring urgent home visits or in the case of an emergency, telephone 654646. If an immediate response is required, the emergency ambulance service can be contacted by dialling 999.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

As many as 50 appointments are wasted every week when patients fail to turn up. Please make sure you contact the receptionist if the appointment is no longer required

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system via the link at the top of this page

Trainee GPs and Medical Students

As part of our commitment to training, qualified doctors are based in the surgery on 6 monthly placements to continue their training. Doctors who then wish to specialise as GPs continue their training for 12 months. As part of this training process, consultations may be recorded but this will not be done unless written patient consent has been obtained before and after the consultation.

We have also become involved in the training of medical students from Keele University. This means that students may be sitting in with GPs during their surgery but you will always be given the opprtunity to decide whether or not you you are happy for the student to be present during the consultation.
